Greg Garmon was in the seventh grade when he learned he might never play football again. Ironic, considering today the 18-year-old junior at McDowell Senior High School is one of the most sought-after football recruits in the country and one of the most recruited players in Erie County history.

But that future wasn't evident when Garmon was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma -- a cancer of the immune system -- while he was a student at St. George School.
Lymphoma is the third most common cancer in children and adolescents, according to the Lymphoma Research Foundation; Garmon was one of about 1,500 children diagnosed with the disease annually. It started in his hip, then moved into his stomach and chest, requiring significant treatment.
