The first of 33 men trapped in a collapsed Chilean mine for nearly 10 weeks has been successfully rescued. Florencio Avalos was hugged by family members and others present at the site after he stepped out of the rescue capsule, television images showed. He began his ascent to the surface late Tuesday night.
