Pick up everyone.
I'm always hearing from my editors that I need to be more succinct. How's that for succinct? Easiest column ever!
But I can't get away with that. I have a minimum word count to reach. I need to try to reach this minimum word count. The minimum word count is my goal, unfortunately. Damn minimum word count, will I ever reach you?
But that one sentence - that one, beautiful, succinct sentence - speaks volumes. Besides hinting that I'm losing my marbles, it nicely sums up the state of affairs in the NBA. Or at least summarizes the state of affairs in the bedroom of an idiot writing about fantasy waiver pickups in the NBA.
Pick up everyone. What the hell am I talking about? Well, it's a literary device called "hyperbole", where I exaggerate for effect. I don't really want you to go out and pick everyone up, unless you play in a really deep league. But have you been following the injuries? It's out of control. We're at the point where only a few players in the league are healthy, and the ones that are have the flu (there's that hyperbole again). Almost nobody is off limits. Are we really ready to consider Kyle Weaver (SG, OKC) and Bobby Jackson (PG, SAC)? What is this season coming to? And will I ever end this introduction?
Don't you love how I can write a meandering, never-ending intro about writing a one-sentence,
succint column? [Editors Note: No, we don’t] Don't blame me, it's the word count.
So don't pick up everyone. But do consider the following, especially if your squad is decimated...
